Against the status quo

Points of View

  1. Meaning of life is to express love
  2. I value an open-mind most in life
  3. Society has made me both hopeful & skeptical
  4. Time is an illusion, there is no meaning
  5. The purpose of work is to balance play
  6. Fulfilling work looks natural and playful
  7. I think money is a means, not an end
  8. Defining success is always in hindsight,
    or measuring results, I suppose...
  9. A person grows with plenty of water, nutrition, sleep, patience and hard work and messing up until it’s right

Beliefs

In the end... this life won't be about possessions, wealth, or adhering strictly to a predetermined schedule. It will be about spontaneity and the unexpected. Rather than worrying about achievements, money, or time, I'm focused on nourishing my 'life plant' and embracing an open-minded approach.

This flexibility is essential in our ever-changing world. Unlike the rigid concept of time measured by clocks, I believe time is subjective and can be manipulated. The idea of 'traveling through space and time' has always fascinated me, suggesting that time's pace can vary depending on the observer. By understanding this, we can consciously slow down for precious moments and speed up for mundane tasks.

A healthy acceptance of 'on-time' mixed with freedom from time-based anxieties helps me concentrate on the true essence of life: balancing work and play. As someone once explained to me, appreciating one aspect requires acknowledging its opposite.  Therefore, I embrace both the sun and the rain, recognizing their equal importance in the grand scheme of life.

Personality Type

ex Campaigner (ENFP)

How accurate did you feel the results of your personality test were?

These results were correct.  I’m old enough to know that I’ve settled into some of my personality traits yet have plenty of room to improve, so this survey said pretty much what I was thinking all along.

How did you feel about the “Strengths & Weaknesses” listed for you?

I am ok with all of these.  High standards and preferences for positive work environments have influenced my career choices, maintaining consistent work in settings that align with my values.

In the “Career Paths” section did you find anything interesting?

My unique perspectives have sometimes made it difficult for me to fit into traditional corporate environments. These experiences have motivated me to seek out opportunities that better align with my creative aspirations, ensuring that I work on projects that truly inspire me.

Reality Reflections

Projecting where my current reality path is headed and what my life might be like in 5 years. Then my life in an alternate reality with a new-found freedom to start over due to robots and artificial intelligence have eliminated the need for my skills

Current Reality

Was it challenging to plan out your realities?

This has taken some time to fruition, but once my wife and I settled on going to BSU to pursue our passions, the path became clear. She would go to Film School in an abrupt switch from Social Work, and I would get into Audio & Digital Innovation studies to enhance my career. We moved from Hailey, ID to Boise, ID, making arrangements for school, childcare, etc. and starting new roots.

We have both dreamed of producing films, music and other multimedia projects together and showing our kids that life can be what you make of it.

Alternate Reality

Did your “Alternate Reality” reveal things you wish you could try?

My alternate reality solutions are rooted in humanitarian needs and empathic ways to help the future of our race.  These solutions made me think on a global scale as well as a local scale.  What will we do in our own communities when we transition to mostly sedentary lifestyles?  What does it mean as a human race to be tossed to the side and rendered outmoded?

We might be terraforming the Earth’s demise, but I’m not convinced every human wants to see that happen.  I’m betting there will be a huge number of people that want to help.

The most interesting thing I've learned about myself throughout this process?

While I am currently looking for stability in my middle-age years, I am fully aware that this world is nothing but unstable and unpredictable.  In such a crazy, demanding world, the only thing I can truly control is my reaction to it and how prepared I am for adapting to change.  I feel a need to move past a so-called 'career' and seek a calling, a more meaningful place in the human timeline.

As I reflect on my five year plan and all the finite details it might take, it seems like a lot of little steps that will eventually lead to hops, skips, jumps, leaps and then plunges into the unknown.  I’m impacted by the sheer opposite end of that spectrum thinking globally about the lives of billions of people, and the immense day-to-day details that it takes to put in motion every living system that humans depend on.  I’m interested in being a part of something larger than myself.

Sometimes reflecting on my smallness in the grand scheme of things makes me timid and hopeless, but at the same time comforted and inspired like being lost in a crowd in the middle of a metropolis.

This image represents my spirit as an individual renewed from the burden of obstacles and past mistakes that have kept me from my full potential. This egret soars high above his life once lived, using it as inspiration for the life he is destined to find.

The egret knows its full potential when it expands its wings and flies proudly into the sunset.  Leaving a caged world of rules and conventional wisdom, he flies high on the knowledge that life is everlasting and continuous. He exemplifies the freedom a soul might feel when finally realizing its purpose.
