Path to adulthood in the divided worldfrom reading this, i've realized that humanity has it all wrong. we've placed importance on a set number of years that determine how old people are and how much responsibilities they have. like this article says... people don't magically become adult at age 18. I think the adolescent years are ignored, and the adults tend to just think about themselves and their own successes... we forget about the children's successes.
that's one thing i would struggle with as a teacher, if i were to become one.. how to put kids' success and welfare before my own success as a teacher, and if i'm reaching them.
i fear adults these days are so worried about their own differences, and trying to settle their problems with war and bad business, that they're all forgetting about the future... the children who don't need to be growing up in confusion and hatred.. more confusion than they need to be exposed to. the whole system is wrong.
the education system is wrong. we hurry kids through school like a herd of cow, then slaughter them as they reach adulthood with situations, finances and responsibilities they can't handle.. because we've suddenly forgotten to tell them that the real world is indeed real... So much to learn in today's world. With the internet comes the mixing of several thousand cultures.. More people being offended by more offhanded opinions, and signs of ignorance.
I always thought the internet, and being connected to the entire world would be a good thing, in many ways it is.. But in so many more ways, too many eyes are getting entirely small glimpses of the world around them, and suddenly convince themselves that this is the world around them. much like television.
so we're left with raising our kids on computers and television, short attention spans and small tempers. We'll give them the attention they deserve after we've given ourselves the amount of attention we need to give ourselves. Does anyone truly leave childhood?
We're all just children trapped inside adult bodies...Bodies that keep getting older and older as the world turns, as more bombs are dropped, as more people are dying from violence, as more people are becoming less educated about the world around them. We all want a voice to be heard.. the insurgent wants his or her voice heard.. The innocent want their voice heard. The rich, the poor, the middle-class, the struggling, the privileged, the underdogs, the overachievers, the activist, the protester, the vegetarian, the hippie, the right wing crazy, the left wing nut job, the crooked politician, the righteous politician, the politician trying to take a stand for personal freedoms and human rights, the animals, the plants, the air..
Everyone is trying to get their voice heard. The problem exists in the volume of communication. It seems that people think the louder they talk, the more clear the message becomes. The problem being that when 1 person is shouting, the crowd can listen.. But when the crowd of millions, perhaps billions and trillions is shouting, screaming, exploding bombs, screaming, causing and wreaking havoc across the world... No one can truly be heard.
The peacemaker washed out by the loud cry of those dying around him, the peaceful soul walking down the street, blown apart by an improvised explosion device, the father of 4, brother to 5.... kidnapped by an unknown assailant.. The soldier meant to protect, coming home in a coffin.
I'm telling you, there is something wrong in this world.. There is something completely wrong with how this world is run, and how people are communicating.
What do we do? It seems no voice can ever be heard over the deafening sound of a gun.
