Recall
So I'm perusing through the Yahoo! Top Stories and I get:
Pathbreaking Comedian Richard Pryor Dies (AP)
4 U.S. Troops Die in Separate Iraq Attacks (AP)
Nigerian Jet Crash Kills at Least 103 (AP)
1968 Presidential Upstart McCarthy Dies (AP)
ElBaradei says nuclear arms should be taboo as slavery (Reuters)
So what it seems to me, is that they should switch the section heading from "Yahoo! News: Top Stories"... to "Yahoo Obituaries: Top Deaths"...
I mean, come on.. who in their right mind actually wants to read about deaths constantly? Why is it the only news we get, is what bad happened? Why has the news turned into an obituary section, engaging people in fear.. Scaring people into thinking that they may soon end up on a "news headline" as dead.. Perhaps in a burning coal mine, or falling building, or a ravashed airplane ride, or a great huge tsunami or hurricane... What will your headline look like?
"25 year old indiana man decapitated in hostage seige"... Reports from friends say he was a kind and loving person, always willing to make someone else feel good. He will be missed, with or without a head.
That'd be weird..
So I want a recall on these "News Headlines" claims.. I want them to put the true heading on it.. Obituaries.. for the dead, by the dead.

Here are some of the headlines in my yahoo! news section:
*Scientists: Fissure Could Be an Ocean Being Born. (A 37 mile long fissure split open in Ethiopia.)
*Gay Cowboys: Are Moviegoers Ready? (Is Brokeback Mountain more focused on love or homosexuality? How will this be received?)
*School Proposes Ban of Whole Milk (New health regulations on school food and some of the fallacies in the new programs)
*Reggie Bush is College's Best Football Player (Winner of the Heisman Trophy story)
*Schwarzenegger Ponders High Profile Death Row Case (Death Row inmate wrote a series of children's books and had a show made about him. Turned to God in jail, now considering to give him a life sentence instead of death)
These are all more interesting than death of people. Mass deaths are reported because they happen and they shock and affect a lot of people. I don't like it either, which is why I don't read those stories. You choose what you pick out of the multitude of headlines. Completely y.o.u. They put it up, and they don't force you to read it. It is no one else's fault what you choose to focus on. Don't get mad at them publishing it if you are going to make it all you focus on while reading the news.
Death is a big event in life, and that's why it's given so much attention. I've posted this on here before, but it seems to me that more recently you only have bad thoughts about the world and you don't try to fix any of them! When you pay attention only to the bad headlines, you are giving exactly what you think the newsreporters want: attention. On headlines that you say piss you off. What about all the good ones? I think that a new ocean is an amazing happening. I think the way the human condition can change and change enough to employ the possibility of forgiveness on a death penalty is too. There are cases of good all over the place, but if you only want to focus on the bad and complain about that, then nothing will be solved. Any attention is good attention. So if we, as a person or a community or a country, stop focusing on the wrongs of the world and start giving the rights of it the credit that they deserve, maybe more will be reported about them. The fact is that because people pay so much attention to the bad news they hear, more bad news is always reported than good news. And yes, by complaining about the fact that only bad news is reported, you are giving more attention to the bad than the good. Can I see something on your next post about something good that happened that you are adamantly passionate about? I think it would be, in the least, a small change.
